The Miracle of Being Sustained
I want to talk to you about one of the most overlooked miracles we experience as Christians - the miracle of being sustained.
Most of us want the Red Sea to split wide open! We want to see Jericho walls tumbling down! We love action, don't we? But because of our desire to see the big breakthrough, we tend to overlook those small miracles that God gives us on our way to the promised land.
The Secret Place
Let's go to 1 Kings 17. Elijah told King Ahab, "There shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word." That was a bold prophecy! King Ahab was one of the most wicked kings of Israel. But Elijah obeyed God, and God protected him.
After his encounter with Ahab, God told Elijah: "Go hide yourself." Listen to me - I believe the Holy Ghost is calling some of us into hiding right now. Anytime God is getting ready to do something big, something supernatural, He always calls us into the secret place first.
Before Jesus walked on water, He climbed the mountain and went into prayer. The secret place comes before public ministry. You got to hide first!
God commanded the ravens to feed Elijah by the brook. Now, ravens are some of the stingiest birds, but God can override stinginess! He is going to use unexpected sources – people and places you never dreamed possible to bless you. The ravens are coming!
When Things Dry Up
But here's what happened - after a while, the brook dried up because there had been no rain. The ravens quit coming. Elijah got too comfortable, too relaxed in his provision.
When things start drying up, that's normally a sign God wants you to move on. He is trying to get our attention. And moving on may not necessarily mean relocating geographically. Sometimes it means a move in your mindset.
Power of Obedience
God sent Elijah to Zarephath - to a widow woman who was down to her last meal. She said, "I'm going to bake me and my son a cake, eat it, and die."
But Elijah challenged her faith: "Make me a little cake first."
As soon as she moved in obedience, God released the word: "The barrel of meal will never run dry, nor the cruise of oil will run dry" (1 Kings 17:14). God sustained that woman, Elijah, and her son for three and a half years until the famine was over all because of her obedience.
Attitude of Gratitude
Don’t overlook the power of obedience. Don’t overlook the miracle of sustainment. Don't despise the day of small beginnings. When God is sustaining you, your faith is growing. You start learning how to walk by faith and not by sight.
What keeps the blessings flowing? Gratitude. You got to be grateful. The massive breakthrough may not be here yet, but Lord, I'm grateful for this small cake. I'm grateful for this glass of water. I'm grateful for this widow woman.
Lift your hands right now and say, "Lord, I thank you for every gift, for every form of provision you bring my way."
You're going to make it, saints! Sustainment is a blessing, but you're not going to stay in that season forever. I feel like somebody is getting ready to come out to the other side. Hang in there! Your breakthrough is the on way!
