Your Faith Is Working

I want to take you on a journey through one of the most powerful stories in Scripture - the account of the woman with the issue of blood. This woman was bleeding for twelve years. The doctors had given up on her. She had spent all that she had trying to get better. But one encounter with Jesus changed her life forever, a moment that required her to completely step out of her comfort zone.

Divine Interruptions

When the woman with the issue of blood encountered Jesus, He was on his way to Jairus’s house to heal his daughter. Here's what amazes me about this story: this woman had suffered with her condition for twelve long years. Meanwhile, Jairus's daughter was twelve years old and had just died from a terrible situation that Christ was about to resurrect her from the dead.
I've learned that there is no such thing as coincidence in the Bible. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and what you're going through right now is not by accident (Psalm 37:23). Sometimes God is positioning you for a breakthrough.

When Nothing Is Working

The Bible says the woman with the issue of blood had suffered many things at the hands of many physicians (Mark 5:26). She had spent all she had and wasn't getting any better. As a matter of fact, the Bible says she "grew worse" (Mark 5:26).

Now, don't get me wrong - I believe in medicine. I believe God uses doctors, and they help us a whole lot. But sometimes you reach the end of human ability. The woman with the issue of blood – her situation went from bad to worse. She was flat broke, physically drained, and emotionally exhausted. Everyone said it's over and there's nothing else we can do. But man's extremity is God's opportunity to do the supernatural!

Do you know what I admire about this woman? She refused to give up. She had been battling this sickness for twelve, long years. Twelve years! Some of us would have thrown in the towel. But this woman refused to die in her condition. Instead of accepting defeat, she took a calculated risk. According to Jewish law, her condition made her ceremonially unclean. Being out in public was forbidden. She could have been stoned for what she was about to do. But faith refuses to take “no” for an answer.

Touch of Faith

When she had heard about Jesus - about the miracles that He had performed – something ignited within her spirit, and she said, "If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole" (Mark 5:28). Faith has a voice! When faith gets a hold of you, you got to speak! “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” (Psalm 118:17). Faith has action! When faith gets a hold of you, you got to move! Faith without works is dead (James 2:26).

The woman with the issue of blood acted on her faith. She came in the crowd behind Jesus and touched His garment. And immediately - straightway - the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed.

Being at the right place at the right time matters in the kingdom of God. Sometimes you have a part to play to get your miracle. The servants had to fill the waterpots with water before Jesus turned it into wine. Joshua and the children of Israel had to march around the walls of Jericho thirteen times - once a day for six days, then seven times on the seventh day. Naaman the leper had to dip in the Jordan River seven times before he was completely healed. It didn’t make sense, but they acted on their faith, and God gave them a miracle.

After the woman with the issue of blood was healed, Jesus suddenly turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My clothes?" His disciples said, "Don't you see all these people around you, Jesus? How can you ask who touched you?" But Jesus felt a different kind of touch – a touch of faith.

When the woman came trembling before Jesus and told Him all the truth, He said unto her, "Daughter, your faith has made you whole. Go in peace" (Mark 5:34).

Like this woman, you may be at the end of your rope. You may have spent everything trying to fix your situation, but I want to encourage you today to:

  • Speak to your mountain. The Bible says life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). The woman with the issue of blood said, “If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole.”

  • Act on your faith. Step out of your comfort zone.

  • Reach out to Jesus. God cannot ignore faith. This woman pushed through the crowd despite her illness, risked being stoned, and grabbed onto the hem of Jesus’ garment. And she was healed.

What step of faith is God calling you to take today?
